Queues form outside Cardiff joke shop as shoppers prepare for Halloween
Queues form outside Cardiff joke shop ahead of Halloween

Long queues formed outside The Jokeshop.com on Duke Street in Cardiff city centre on Friday, October 30, as shoppers rushed to buy costumes and accessories for Halloween on October 31.

The line stretched past multiple shops along the high street, opposite Cardiff Castle, with many people hoping to secure last-minute purchases before the holiday.

Shoppers share their Halloween plans

Those waiting in line spoke about their costume choices and plans for Halloween as final preparations got under way. Orit Ahmed, 16, described the queue as "the Halloween craze."

"I have been queuing up for the last 10 or 15 minutes, it (the queue) has been going quite quick but yeah it is the Halloween craze, everyone is looking to get their costume last minute as am I," she said.

Reese Jones, 18, another person in the queue, said: "I would be willing to wait 45 minutes. I am going out into town Friday and Saturday, dressed up as Wonder Woman."

Last-minute costume shoppers

University students Evie Francis, 20, and Casey Leigh, 19, said buying last-minute costumes is something they always tend to do for Halloween. Evie said: "I dont have any of my costume, I am hoping to buy anything, whatever they have left." To celebrate Halloween, she added: "we are flip-flopping between three different houseparties."

Casey said she was queueing to buy "fake blood, some earrings and just some red paint to make it look like I have been scratched by a tiger."

Mother Caroline and her son Sonny also joined the queue. Caroline said: "We checked on Amazon but the delivery will be for next week, so this is one of the only joke shops left in Cardiff now I think." Sonny is planning to dress up as Walter White from the television show Breaking Bad and looks forward to trick or treating and decorating the house.

Koda Seward, 14, queued for over 30 minutes to purchase an inflatable dinosaur costume for the next day. He said he would be willing to wait for an hour for a costume: "I really need it. I have been waiting for a week and I have finally come here and done it."
