Andre's, the sandwich shop on King John Terrace in Heaton, Newcastle, has announced it will close its doors next Friday, leaving regulars 'devastated'. The owners say the closure marks 'the end of this road, but not the end of the story'.
Shop to close after months of trade
The shop opened inside a small premises on King John Terrace earlier this year, quickly earning a reputation as one of the best places in the Toon for a sandwich and being described as Newcastle's 'quirkiest' sandwich shop. Its arrival in the spring captured plenty of attention, with no shortage of customers keen to sample its fillings.
On Thursday evening, Andre's announced the closure in a post that began: 'The end of this road, but not the end of the story. Next Friday (one week tomorrow) we’ll be rollin’ down the shutters at Andre’s for the last time.'
Owners promise future plans
The statement continued: 'Many thank you’s are in order. Those who have helped us out, those who have supplied us. But above all, if you’ve supported us, been to a pop up, bought a sarnie or just stopped by for some craic, nice one. Real nice one. We appreciate it a lot. And it means so much to us.'
Offering assurances that Andre's won't be gone for good, the post added: 'This ain’t the end of Andre’s entirely. Just the end of this era. Gonna have some space to breathe, some time to chill, ya know the drill? Please keep an eye out for what comes next, we’re working’ on some bits. Thank you, catch ya in the next chapter.'
Regulars react with upset
The love for the shop was reflected in the comments on the closing post, with one regular replying: 'Devastated. Your sandwiches are class. Also Guinness cake we had the other week was the best cake I’ve ever eaten'. Another responded with the same degree of upset: 'Nooooooo.'
