Delaval Fish & Chips opened its doors for the first time at the end of October on Avenue Road in Northumberland, drawing queues out the door and down the street as customers lined up to sample its freshly cooked fish and chips.
The new chippy had promised to serve 'delicious, freshly cooked fish & chips' before opening on Friday, and the response was immediate, with a huge turnout that left some customers waiting longer than expected for their food.
Team thanks customers after opening day
Blown away by the support on opening day, the team at Delaval Fish & Chips took to Facebook to thank their first customers and address the delays caused by the large crowd.
The post read: 'WOW! What an incredible opening day! We would like to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who came along today to support us.'
'We know some of you had to wait longer than expected in the queues, and we sincerely apologise for the delays. Your patience, understanding and support mean so much to us. We truly appreciate every single customer who walked through our doors today.'
They added: 'We're still finding our feet, and we'll be working hard to make things run more smoothly. Thank you once again for making our opening day so special!'
Northumberland's chippy scene
The opening adds to Northumberland's reputation as a top destination for fish and chips. Earlier this year, Hook in Seahouses was named the best place for fish and chips in the North East in a ChronicleLive poll, taking the title from V.Gormans of Ashington, which won the previous year.
Northumbria Mysteries actor Robson Green also named Hook as his favourite when interviewed last month.
Elsewhere in Northumberland, queues have also been seen in Blyth, where Georgey Porgy's pie and mash shop enjoyed a roaring trade over its opening weekend.
