A new Home Bargains store is opening at Sands Industrial Estate in Gateshead this weekend, with a bakery, café and garden centre among its features. The shop officially opens at 8am on Saturday, October 31.
Around £3 million has been invested in the store, which will help create 75 new jobs in the community. The new 'Gateshead 2' store will complement the existing Gateshead stores and over 600 outlets across the UK.
Store details and features
The 21,313 sq. ft store will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food. The Gateshead 2 store will also be home to a Home Bargains bakery, café and garden centre.
Earlier this year, shoppers descended on another large store opening in Team Valley, with the expansive store seeing massive crowds on opening day.
Manager's comments
Richard Duke, the new Gateshead 2 store manager, said: "Another fantastic store opening in Gateshead. It's great bringing on board new colleagues to our business to join the Home Bargains family and to add another exciting shopping dimension to the local community."
Duke added: "I'm really looking forward to welcoming customers new and old... Exciting times ahead!"
Expansion plans
Home Bargains stores see more than five million customers each week across the country. Offering discounted goods, from groceries to toys to garden supplies, it's no wonder it's popular.
The new store is one part of Home Bargains' plans for expansion. Currently boasting over 650 stores in the country, the company plans to increase that number to 800 as soon as possible.
The brand began 40 years ago in Liverpool, but has expanded massively in the last decade. There are 20 Home Bargains stores within 10 miles of Newcastle, with another two stores in Gateshead, meaning residents are spoiled for choice.
