A Nando's superfan has sparked a divide among diners after creating her own 'secret menu' sauce mix, with some labelling it 'unhygienic' and 'wasteful'.
Kenzie Draper, 32, a fitness influencer and personal trainer, shared a video on TikTok showing her combining multiple sauces during a visit to a Nando's restaurant in Bromley, South London. Her method involves first reaching for tomato ketchup, then adding wild herb, hot, and garlic peri-peri sauces, before mixing in a pot of garlic perinaise.
Video goes viral
The 78-second clip has been viewed more than three million times on TikTok and has received more than 165,000 likes since it was posted. The responses have been sharply divided, with some commenters calling her a 'genius' and expressing solidarity over mixing garlic peri-peri sauce with ketchup.
However, many chicken fans were enraged because the video shows her removing the nozzles from the sauce bottles to pour them out, a move they considered unhygienic.
Family tradition
Speaking to the Daily Express, Draper said: "I've done it since I was little. My dad used to do it with ketchup and all the sauces, and I started doing it."
She added: "Me and my dad and my sisters, we love sauce, we're such saucy people. My friends were all a bit horrified when they first saw me do it, but it's a don't knock it till you try it situation and they all do like it."
Response and reaction
Draper, who usually films fitness content, was encouraged by her sister to film the sauce mix during their visit. She said: "I went in there with my sister, and she went to me, you should film this, because I don't think anyone else does it."
She continued: "And I said 'You're okay' but then I said 'Oh go on then', and so I filmed it. I woke up the next day and the video was on three million views. I was thinking, oh my god, I've broken the internet with a video about Nando's sauce."
Despite the backlash, she remains confident in her creation, saying: "There are a lot of very angry people who commented on the video and others have told me about different things to try. But I definitely think mine's the elite option."
A Nando's spokesperson said: "We love seeing people get creative, we know lots of our fans have their own hacks when enjoying our bottomless sauce. Kenzie looks like the ultimate saucerer."
