M&S has announced £30 million worth of price cuts across 65 shopping 'essentials' as part of its continued efforts to attract more families. The move, confirmed on Wednesday, June 10, applies to products from the retailer's Remarksable Value, Dropped & Locked, and Bigger Pack, Better Value ranges.
Commitment to affordable quality
Alex Freudmann, Managing Director of M&S Food, said: 'These price reductions across key family favourites like salmon, eggs and veg, are all part of our commitment to help our customers to eat great tasting food every day, without compromise. This is another step on our transformation journey as we reinvest for growth.'
In a statement, the high street giant emphasized that the price cuts do not mean the quality of its food is being reduced to make it cheaper. Instead, M&S said the cheaper price tags were made possible because of investment in long-term suppliers.
Salmon prices slashed
The reductions include every one of the retailer's fresh salmon fillets. Products with lower prices include M&S's exclusive Caledonian Gold salmon, which is now £4.95, down from £5.50. The prices of 10 fresh salmon products have been cut, including the larger family four pack, which has gone from £10.75 to £9.50. M&S said the investment brings its salmon in line with market prices in its Remarksable Value range, which are benchmarked against competitors.
Other essentials reduced
Other staples with price reductions include British Lean Beef Mince 12% now at £4.50 and Free-Range Mixed Size Eggs 6 Pack, which have a new price of £1.30. Store cupboard and freezer family staples such as Tomato Ketchup are at 95p and French Fries 1.5kg at £2.50.
Further price reductions apply to Crunchy Peanut Butter (£1.40), Smooth Peanut Butter (£1.40), Crinkle Cut Chips (£2.00), Garlic Baguette (£1.00) and Quiche Lorraine 170g (£2.50).
Wider strategy
M&S Food said the changes form part of its wider strategy to bring the best quality food to customers at the best price possible. More products are set to be added to a range that now offers more than 140 everyday 'family favourites', according to M&S.
