M&S Named UK's Best Supermarket for Fifth Year Running, Beating Tesco and Morrisons
M&S Named UK's Best Supermarket for Fifth Year Running

Marks & Spencer has been named the best supermarket in the UK for the fifth year running, according to a survey by consumer group Which?. The retailer beat competitors including Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, and Asda, with shoppers praising its product quality, store presentation, and customer service.

Which? Survey Results

The Which? survey, which assesses customer satisfaction across UK supermarkets, placed M&S at the top of its in-store shopping table. Shoppers highlighted the retailer's "beautifully presented stores," the quality and range of groceries, and first-class customer service. However, the survey noted that M&S continues to receive lower scores for value for money compared to discounters like Aldi and Lidl.

Despite this, overall satisfaction remains high. A customer quoted in the survey said: "It's a lovely place to shop, high-quality products and excellent customer service." Another added: "It's the best place for high-quality produce and never lets me down."

Reddit Debate on Best Supermarket

The announcement comes amid ongoing debate among shoppers. In a Reddit thread titled "What is overall the best supermarket chain in the UK?", users shared mixed opinions. One user said: "I think it's different for everyone. Depending on what you buy, and where you live, the 'right' supermarket for you is different. For us, Tesco wins out. Morrisons was shockingly expensive, M&S and Lidl are too small, and Aldi has appalling quality fruit and veg."

Another user praised Ocado and M&S delivery: "We recently switched to Ocado/M&S and the quality is way better than our previous, Asda. If we shop smart, it's about 10% more than Asda, but it's worth it."

M&S Cyber Attack Impact

M&S faced significant challenges in the past year, including a cyber attack in April 2025 that almost wiped out its half-yearly profits. The attack left shelves bare and prevented online shopping for months. According to Which?, this did not affect M&S's standing among grocery shoppers: "It's a testament to M&S's reputation that none of this seems to have affected its standing among grocery shoppers."

Looking forward, M&S plans to open dozens of new stores over the next two years, focusing on larger sites to attract more families.

Other Supermarket Rankings

Which? also identified Asda as the worst online supermarket based on customer feedback. The survey found that Asda struggled with substitution rates and delivery reliability. In contrast, Waitrose and Ocado scored highly for online shopping.
