Marks & Spencer has announced a £30 million investment to reduce prices on more than 65 everyday grocery staples, aiming to help families 'eat well for less'. The retailer has lowered costs across its food halls, including salmon fillets, beef mince, eggs, onions, tortilla wraps, tomato ketchup, and frozen chips.
Remarksable Value expansion
The move expands M&S's Remarksable Value line to 145 products. The supermarket emphasized that these are not lower-quality 'entry tier' items but the same high-quality M&S food at a lower price. As household budgets remain stretched, the price cuts target weekly shop essentials.
Among the reduced items, two Caledonian Gold salmon fillets dropped from £5.50 to £4.95, and the family four-pack fell from £10.75 to £9.50. M&S cited independent research showing 68% of families would eat salmon more often if it were more affordable, and one in five struggle to get enough omega-3 in their diet.

More products are expected to join the Remarksable Value, Dropped & Locked, and Bigger Pack, Better Value ranges in coming months as part of M&S's strategy to double food sales.
Addressing value perception
Despite being voted Britain's best-loved supermarket for five years running with a 78% score in Which? survey, M&S scored only two stars for value for money. Customers often view it as a destination for 'occasional treats' rather than a full weekly shop.
