M&S has divided shoppers with the return of its viral summer sandwich, now featuring a new twist that some call an 'upgrade' while others say the retailer has gone 'too far'. The limited-edition Chocolate, Strawberry and Pistachio Creme Sandwich, priced at £3.50, combines ripe British strawberries with pistachio creme and Fairtrade Belgian chocolate spread between two slices of cocoa-enriched sweetened bread.
What's inside the new sandwich?
According to the M&S website, the product is described as 'the UK’s first dessert sandwich'. The description reads: 'Introducing a brand-new addition to our viral sweet summer sandwich lineup – the UK’s first dessert sandwich. Ripe, sweet British strawberries are paired with smooth pistachio creme and a rich Fairtrade Belgian chocolate spread, layered in cocoa‑enriched sweetened bread. This sweet sandwich is sure to get the nation talking – head to the Foodhall now to try it for yourself.'
How do shoppers feel?
The new sandwich follows last summer's launch of the Red Diamond Strawberry & Creme Sandwich, which was inspired by Japanese 'sweet sandos'. That original sandwich also divided opinion, with some shoppers excited and others saying they would 'pass'. Now, the new version is sparking similar debate on social media.
On the Facebook page Newfoodsuk, shopper Rosie Ann commented: 'This is one I'd like to try.' Ellen Mussell echoed: 'Next m&s food purchase needed hehe!' Pippa Walters said: 'There's an upgrade from last year.' Nicola Dugan added: 'I’ve just had one and it was delicious.'
