Marks & Spencer and Waitrose are opening six new stores across the UK this autumn, with some branches featuring larger bakeries and a wider range of products.
Waitrose Expands with New Manchester Store
Waitrose is opening a new site in Hale Barns, Manchester, replacing an Asda superstore that closed earlier this year. Additional locations include London and Berkshire.
Waitrose regional manager David Donovan said: “Opening in Hale Barns is an exciting opportunity for Waitrose and we’ll offer the very best products and customer service for food lovers in the area.”
New Store Formats and Locations
The retailer is also opening new Little Waitrose convenience stores, which will feature larger bakeries and a wider range of ingredients. A branch recently opened at Chelmer Village Retail Park in Essex.
Waitrose recently introduced “neighbourhood stores”, which are larger than Little Waitrose shops and are located in suburban areas and commuter towns with high footfall.
M&S Food Halls and Job Creation
Marks & Spencer has announced three new locations opening in September, including a Food Hall in Northampton that will replace a Homebase store and create 70 jobs.
The modern M&S sites offer an in-store bakery, a cheese bar, a Hot Chicken Counter, and a dedicated Flower and Wine shop, “showcasing the best Flower Market Specials and award-winning wines”.
