Mouth of the Tyne Festival generates over £1m for economy

This year's 21st Mouth of the Tyne Festival is anticipated to have generated over £1 million for the local economy, according to North Tyneside Council. The four-day musical extravaganza, hosted at Tynemouth Priory, featured performances by The K's, Ministry of Sound Classical, Self Esteem, and Heidi Curtis, many supported by special guests.

Council officials praise festival's economic impact

Councillor Carl Johnson, Deputy Mayor of North Tyneside, said: “The Mouth of the Tyne Festival is one of the North East’s biggest success stories. Born and bred here in North Tyneside, it now generates more than £1 million for the local economy and puts our borough on the national stage, attracting visitors from across the UK and around the world.” He added: “This year’s festival once again showcased the very best of North Tyneside, giving local businesses a welcome boost and creating an unforgettable weekend for residents and visitors alike. Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a success.”

Tynemouth councillor Tom Bailey expressed gratitude to council staff who organised the event and noted the positive effect on local businesses. “It is great to see all of the businesses on Front Street making the most of it, and it clearly does an awful lot for the local economy,” he said.

Second consecutive year of seven-figure boost

This marks at least the second year in a row that the Mouth of the Tyne Festival has generated a seven-figure boost for local businesses. Last year, the local authority estimated a £1m boost based on ground surveys in which festival attendees were asked how much they had spent. In 2025, approximately 30% of respondents reported parting with more than £30. That data was then multiplied by the festival’s visitor count using a conservative multiplier.
