A Morrisons petrol station in West Yorkshire is set for a major transformation, with three new features approved by Calderdale Council. The Motor Fuel Group (MFG) has received planning permission to overhaul the site adjacent to the Morrisons store in Illingworth, north Halifax.
Three Key New Features
The approved plans include replacing existing jet washes, modifying the forecourt canopy, and adding a single-storey extension to the sales building. Additionally, four new parking spaces, parcel lockers, a bin store, vacuum units, and an outdoor laundrette will be introduced.
Background of the Acquisition
MFG acquired Morrisons' 337 petrol forecourts in 2024 in a £2.5 billion deal. Both companies are owned by American private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice. Morrisons took a minority stake in MFG, with branding and product supply agreements remaining in place. The deal also included over 400 sites for Ultra-Rapid electric vehicle charging development.
Consultants from Carney Sweeney stated the extension aims to serve passing motorists and the local community, utilising existing staff with an increase in employee numbers. Highways officers raised no objections, as traffic levels are not expected to rise significantly. The application was approved on June 3.
