A Morrisons Daily store in Calne, Wiltshire, which includes a Post Office branch, will shut permanently on Saturday, August 8, 2026. The closure follows a wider review by the supermarket chain of underperforming stores.
Store Opened in 2024 Now Closing
The Morrisons Daily on Phelps Parade opened in February 2024 after refurbishment work. It was among several stores earmarked for closure this year. A Morrisons spokesperson said the decision came after a review identified stores "whose performance has been challenged for a number of years and which are loss making." The spokesperson added that affected staff "will not be at risk of redundancy and a consultation will commence shortly."
Impact on Post Office Services
The Post Office branch inside the store will also close on August 8. The Post Office has apologised for the inconvenience and is advertising the vacancy on runapostoffice.co.uk, welcoming applications from nearby retailers. Residents are directed to the James Avenue Post Office at Spar, about one mile away, or Quemerford Post Office, 1.2 miles from the Morrisons branch.
A Post Office spokesperson stated: "Our retail partner has reviewed their Morrisons Daily store operations and has decided to close their store at Calne. Consequently, the Post Office branch at this location will close on 8 August. We fully recognise the inconvenience this will cause our customers and small businesses who rely on our banking and parcel services in particular. We have now advertised the vacancy for the branch on our runapostoffice.co.uk website. We welcome applications from nearby retailers looking to host a Post Office inside their store."

The Post Office will provide another update once more information is available about future plans for a branch in Calne.
