Mimi's Ice Cream Factory to open in North Shields with free scoops
Mimi's Ice Cream Factory to open in North Shields with free scoops

Mimi's Ice Cream Factory will open its second store in North Shields on Monday, August 31, with the first 50 customers through the door getting their ice cream free. The new site at the Quays is four times the size of the original Gosforth parlour and opens at 11am.

Expansion after successful first year

The move comes a year after the launch of the first Mimi's parlour in Gosforth, which has become known for regularly having a queue out the door. The new North Shields store has been built to bring the full Mimi's factory experience to life, featuring a dedicated colouring station, a new interactive stage area built for photos with Mimi, and double the seating.

A series of triggered factory effects fire throughout the visit, so no two trips are quite the same. The ice cream is made fresh by the team, with 18 flavours on the counter including vegan options and sorbets.

Store details and founder's reaction

The store sits opposite Costa and Poundland, a few steps from the Lightning Clock, and there is free parking right outside across the whole outlet. It runs on a carefully chosen playlist of upbeat feel-good tunes, and every customer is served with a smile.

Daniel Burnett, founder of Mimi's Ice Cream Factory, said: "After a fantastic first year at Gosforth, it felt like the right time to open our second store. We initially trialled a small kiosk and the demand was unbelievable, so we knew we could go bigger and better and bring the true Mimi's experience."

He added: "It has always been about more than ice cream for us. I made Mimi's to be a place that makes people happy and feel appreciated, and hopefully puts them in a better mood than when they came in. Whether you're having the worst day or the best day, Mimi's is made to make it all okay. We want children to have somewhere they feel listened to, and their parents to feel like kids again. This store finally lets us do that properly."

First year success

Founded by Daniel in 2025, the Gosforth store served nearly 50,000 scoops in its first year and became a regular fixture of family days out across the North East.
