Magnet Kitchens, the UK's longest-running kitchen manufacturer, has announced the closure of 15 stores across the country, including its showroom in Stirling, Scotland. The closures are part of a company voluntary arrangement (CVA) restructuring process aimed at addressing property costs that are no longer sustainable.
Stirling Showroom Among Those Affected
The Stirling showroom, located at 16 Whitehouse Road, is the only Magnet Kitchens in the city. While no official closing date has been released, the closure will mark the end of Magnet's presence in Stirling. However, the company continues to operate showrooms in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Perth.
Other locations scheduled for closure include branches in Andover, Birmingham Minworth, Blackburn, Bridgwater, Brighton, Colwyn Bay, Dorking, Farnborough, Ramsgate, Romford Trade, Stockton, Watford, Weymouth, and York Trade.
Restructuring to Secure Finances
Magnet Kitchens stated that the closures target underperforming stores as part of a broader effort to secure the group's finances. The company said the CVA is intended to address property costs that are no longer sustainable. The proposals are subject to creditor approval and will be overseen by Natasha Harbinson, Will Wright, and Chris Pole from advisory firm Interpath.
Sophie Rose, chief executive of Magnet Group, said: “This is a difficult decision and not one we have taken lightly, particularly where colleagues may be impacted. But taking this action now is the right thing to do for the long-term health of Magnet Group. It allows us to deal with property costs that are no longer sustainable and protect the stronger parts of our estate. I am confident these proposals will help Magnet Group build a stronger, more resilient business that is better placed to serve customers, support partners and return to sustainable profitability.”
Impact on Staff and Customers
Magnet did not disclose how many workers would be affected by the closures but said affected staff “will be supported throughout and suitable alternative roles within the business will be offered wherever possible.” The majority of the brand’s 159 stores will not be impacted by the restructuring and will continue to operate as normal.
For customers, Magnet said it will transfer any orders to the closest alternative store if their local site closes.
Company History and Awards
Founded in 1918, Magnet Kitchens takes its name from original founder Tom Duxbury's beloved horse, Magnet. The company is now the UK's longest-running kitchen manufacturer, operating over 150 showrooms nationwide. Its custom-designed kitchens are primarily crafted at its Darlington factory. The FIRA-gold accredited firm was named 'Kitchen Retailer of the Year' at the 2026 Ideal Home Awards.
