Lidl is adding a gilet to its clothing range that closely resembles high-end alternatives sold elsewhere. The Men's Black Padded Gilet launches across all UK locations from Sunday, October 18 for £8.99.
Design and availability
The gilet features two large pockets, one on each side, for storing everyday essentials. Its waterproof design suits various weather conditions. Made from 100 per cent polyester, the piece is only available in-store, so home delivery is not an option.
Shoppers can check stock at their nearest branch via the online store finder by entering their postcode. Sizes range from M to XXL.
Comparison with pricier alternatives
The Lidl gilet serves as a budget alternative to more expensive versions. La Redoute's Reversible Padded Gilet retails for £50, featuring a reversible black and leopard print design. Moncler's Gabas Down Gilet costs £1,131 at HBX, over 125 times more than Lidl's price, with differences in the collar and materials.
Both rival versions can be delivered directly to customers' doors, unlike Lidl's in-store-only offering.
