The owners of Lickety Split in Durham have announced the ice cream parlour will permanently close from Wednesday 2nd September. The news was shared in a statement posted on Facebook on Friday, prompting an outpouring of sadness and support from customers.
The Durham branch opened almost a decade after the original Lickety Split launched by the coast in Seaham. Located inside Infinite Air at New Ferens Park, the parlour quickly gained popularity for its striking and nostalgic 1950s decor as well as its menu. It gathered a wealth of highly favourable reviews online and became a firm favourite among families in the region.
Owners Express Gratitude to Customers
The emotional post from the owners began: "After many happy years, it’s time for us to say a very difficult goodbye. We’re incredibly sad to announce that our ice cream parlour will be permanently closing from Wednesday 2nd September."
Hugely grateful for the support they have received since opening in Durham, the owners added: "We want to say a huge THANK YOU to every single customer who has visited us, supported us, shared our posts, enjoyed our ice cream and helped make our parlour so special. We’ve made so many wonderful memories along the way, and it has been an absolute pleasure serving you all. Thank you again from us all at Lickety Split Durham."

Lickety Split Seaham very much remains open for business. However, the news about the Durham closure comes as another popular North East ice cream parlour, Wheelbirks in Stocksfield, is on the countdown to closing, with it set to shut down next weekend.
