European fashion giant Lefties, the sister brand of Zara, is set to open its third UK store at the Metrocentre in Gateshead, taking over the upper floor of the former House of Fraser unit.
The brand, which welcomed its first UK customers at Liverpool ONE earlier this week, will move into the space between the Red and Green Malls on Town Square, directly above H Beauty. The upper level of House of Fraser was previously home to a range of menswear labels before the store closed in April 2021.
Third UK store confirmed
As first reported by ChronicleLive in April, Lefties will open at the Metrocentre following launches in Lakeside, Essex and Liverpool ONE. The ground floor of the former House of Fraser was taken over by Harrods Beauty in 2022, which proved popular with shoppers.
Lefties was founded in 1999 and has built a following across Europe, with shoppers describing it as “like Zara but cheaper.” The brand focuses on an extensive collection of basics designed to be mixed and matched, offering timeless pieces for all members of the family.
Retail boost for the region
Ben Cox, Director at Sovereign Centros from CBRE, Asset Managers of Metrocentre, said: “We’re proud to confirm that Lefties are the latest exciting new entrant to commit to Metrocentre. As one of the first Lefties stores in the UK, this is another major endorsement of Metrocentre as a key location for international brands investing in UK retail.”
“Lefties’ trend-savvy offer will be a compelling addition to our retail mix, and this signing, once again, reflects the dominance and appeal of our scheme to both national and international retailers. With our consistent footfall, extensive catchment, and quality retail offer, we continue to stand out as the leading destination in the (North East) region.”
