Leekes, the family-owned furniture retailer founded in 1897, has confirmed the closure of its Bilston store in the West Midlands. The store will shut its doors for the final time on Sunday, August 2, 2026, after more than 15 years of operation on the town's high street.
Clearance Sale Underway
A major clearance sale has been launched at the Bilston location, with all stock marked down ahead of the closure. The sale will run through the store's final day of business.
A spokesperson for Leekes said: "The closure marks the end of an era for Leekes in the Midlands. For more than 15 years, Leekes Bilston has been a cherished destination for homeowners across the region, and the outpouring of affection from customers visiting the sale has been a testament to the fond memories made within its walls."
History and Future
Leekes, which describes itself as a "beloved British retailer," has been in operation for nearly 130 years. Despite the Bilston closure, the company continues to trade strongly across the UK. The spokesperson added: "While the Bilston chapter is drawing to a close, Leekes remains as strong as ever."
The Bilston store first opened in 2009. In 2022, the company invested in the location, introducing new furniture studios for brands including Ercol, Stressless, and Alexander & James, as well as expanding its garden furniture range. Solar panels were also installed as part of the refurbishment.
Customer Tributes
Staff and shoppers have been sharing memories of the store, reflecting on home transformations and the service that made Leekes a household name. The closure marks the end of Leekes' presence in the Midlands region.
