GB Home and Garden, a garden and home decor shop on Kettering High Street, has announced it will close its doors permanently on July 18. The store, which opened in November 2021, has launched a closing-down sale with discounts on remaining stock.
Closure Announcement and Customer Reaction
The store confirmed its closure date online, stating: “After many wonderful years on Kettering High Street, the time has come for us to close the doors of GB Home & Garden. Our final trading day will be 18th July. Thank you to all of our customers for your support, loyalty and friendship over the years.”
Customers expressed disappointment on social media. One wrote: “Really sad to hear this, visit your shop regularly, will your products be available in your other shop?” Another commented: “Sad to hear you did well, the whole retail footprint is changing.”
Details of the Closing-Down Sale
The store is currently offering discounted prices on its range of home decor and garden furniture. It is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm. GB Home and Garden also confirmed that its hand-poured wax melts will remain available for purchase online after the closure.
The company's sister shop, GBappliances on Buccleuch Street, will continue operating as usual, selling household appliances and garden furniture.
Broader Retail Context
Store closures across the UK retail sector have been increasing, affecting even large chains. B&Q, the UK’s largest home improvement retailer, confirmed the closure of one of its stores in Wigston this month. A B&Q spokesperson said: “We can confirm that the lease at our Wigston store has expired and our landlord does not intend to renew it, which regrettably means the store will close later this year. We are currently consulting with affected colleagues and our priority is to support them through this period of change, while continuing to explore alternative premises in the area.”
The Express has contacted GB Home and Garden for further comment.
