John Lewis has confirmed it will introduce its new in-store restaurant concept, Platter, across 32 stores by the end of 2027. The move follows the launch of the concept at its Oxford Street flagship in London.
New concept unveiled at flagship store
Platter has launched at Oxford Street, and the new concept will replace the department store chain's restaurants across 32 locations by the end of next year. The Bluewater, Chichester and Reading stores have already reopened with the new restaurant, though the Oxford Street site is described as the fullest expression of the concept.
The concept includes an open kitchen serving hand-stretched pizza, a made-on-site deli, a dessert parlour, a bar overlooking the shop's atrium, and 50 outdoor covers on its fifth-floor terrace. The restaurant can seat up to 300 guests, making it one of the largest restaurants on Oxford Street.
In-store roastery and pop-up
The site features a new in-store roastery, managed by a master roaster who oversees the roasting of single-origin Arabica coffee beans, sourced exclusively for the department store to serve at its Oxford Street site. It is also home to The Residency, a rotating pop-up launched alongside London patisserie The Electric Collection.
John Lewis explained that each Platter restaurant is designed around the scale and character of its store, meaning "what customers find will vary by location."
Investment in customer experience
John Lewis director of services and hospitality Katie Papakonstantinou said: "This is a real investment in something customers told us mattered.
"Sitting down for something to eat and drink has become part of how people shop and Platter is built for that.
"Platter serves our own coffee – with beans roasted right here in Oxford Street – alongside an open kitchen making pizza, deli and patisserie on site.
"Whether stopping for coffee, a pizza with family, a treat from the dessert parlour or a drink at the bar, we've created a space that makes a shopping trip even more special."
