Massive Harry Potter Flagship Store to Open on London's Oxford Street This Autumn
Harry Potter Flagship Store Opening on Oxford Street This Autumn

Warner Bros has unveiled ambitious plans to launch a massive new Harry Potter flagship store on London's iconic Oxford Street, with an opening scheduled for this autumn. The expansive retail destination will span 21,000 square feet across two floors within The Ribbon development at 134-140 Oxford Street, positioning it as the UK's second official Harry Potter shop, alongside the existing King's Cross location.

A Wizarding Emporium in the Heart of London

Designers are working to transform the interior into what they describe as a "wizarding emporium," meticulously celebrating beloved locations from the Harry Potter books and films. This immersive space is billed as a must-see attraction for fans and visitors to the capital, offering a range of interactive activities, numerous photo opportunities, and exclusive merchandise not available elsewhere.

Enhancing the Magical Experience

Karl Durrant, Warner Bros senior vice president of worldwide retail, expressed enthusiasm for the project. "Harry Potter is deeply rooted in British storytelling, and this will give fans an exciting new way to experience this magical world in the city that features so prominently in the stories," he said. Durrant added, "Offering a completely new retail experience for Harry Potter fans which will delight and entertain, it's going to be very special."

The new Oxford Street store will join Warner Bros' collection of Harry Potter experiences in London, which includes the Warner Bros Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter and the Harry Potter shop at King's Cross. The King's Cross shop, situated near the platform 9 ¾ trolley, allows muggles to purchase wands, robes, uniforms, golden platform 9 ¾ tickets, and other Potter collectibles, with its wooden floor and panelled walls evoking traditional Hogwarts school days.

Oxford Street's Transformation

The store's opening coincides with significant changes to Oxford Street's infrastructure. In February, London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan announced that plans to ban traffic from part of Oxford Street have been approved. Vehicles will be prohibited from accessing a 0.7-mile stretch between Oxford Circus and Marble Arch, with works to pedestrianise the road expected to start in the summer and the first traffic-free section introduced by the end of the year.

Oxford Street is one of the world's busiest shopping areas, attracting around half a million visitors each day. The pedestrianisation efforts aim to enhance the shopping experience and safety, potentially benefiting new attractions like the Harry Potter store by creating a more accessible and enjoyable environment for foot traffic.

This development underscores Warner Bros' commitment to expanding its retail footprint in key locations, leveraging the enduring popularity of the Harry Potter franchise to draw both local fans and international tourists to London's premier shopping district.
