Hampshire closed on 122-3 at stumps, still trailing Surrey by 299 runs after a rain-affected day at the Oval. Only 24.4 overs were possible between the showers, but the hosts made steady progress.
Late Resistance
Reeza Lehmann, unbeaten on 32, and James Baker, on 3, saw out the final overs. Baker faced the last six balls from Jordan Clark, with three slips in place, and survived to walk off unbeaten, looking pleased with his effort.
Surrey's Dominance
Surrey had earlier posted a strong total, leaving Hampshire a mountain to climb. The visitors lost three wickets in their reply, but Lehmann and Baker's unbroken partnership of 15 off 33 balls steadied the ship.
Play will resume tomorrow, with Hampshire needing to bat deep to avoid the follow-on. The weather forecast remains mixed, but both sides will hope for more cricket.
