Greggs is set to replace a family-run discount store in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, after the business confirmed it will close following 22 years of trading. Discount Gold and Silver Jewellers, which has served customers in the seaside town for more than two decades, will shut its doors, with the bakery chain expected to take over the premises.
Those behind the business have described the situation as "really sad", marking the end of an era for the independent shop. The owners said the decision to close had not been taken lightly, particularly after spending so many years serving the local community, the Echo reports.

The shop has become a familiar fixture in Leigh over the years, selling a range of jewellery and other items to generations of customers. Its departure will make way for Greggs, which is expected to open a new branch at the site following the closure.
