Greggs has confirmed that the return of its festive bake shattered an all-time single-day sales record within just 24 hours of its launch, marking the strongest debut in the pastry's 17-year history.
The Geordie bakery chain brought the crispy-topped pastry back to UK branches a fortnight earlier than in previous years, on Thursday, over two months ahead of Christmas. On its first day back on sale, the festive bake shifted more units than on any other single day since it was first introduced.
A record-breaking early return
The bake, which combines chicken, ham hock, bacon, cheese and spiced pork stuffing in a sage and cranberry sauce, has built a loyal following over its 17 years on the menu. Despite the early seasonal launch, demand has been stronger than ever, with crowds snapping up the item on its debut day.
Zoe Harris, customer director at Greggs, said: "We know the festive bake has a huge following, but this launch has been something else."
She added: "We brought it back two weeks earlier than ever before because we know people are ready to start feeling festive sooner and, in just 24 hours, they proved us right. To see the biggest day of festive bake sales ever is incredible. This record-breaking start means it could be our biggest festive bake season yet."
Seasonal range expanded
The company confirmed the puff pastry bake, featuring its signature crunchy crumb topping, has been "fine-tuned for 2026". It sits alongside other seasonal items including pigs-under-blankets toasties, pepperoni pizza with hot honey, a festive feast baguette, festive flatbread and a sweet mince pie roll.
Rounding off the selection are three new sweet treats and a variety of seasonal drinks. Christmas cups are now also available in stores as part of the festive rollout.
