Greene King has launched a new pub concept which will bring together some of its existing value and carvery venues across the UK. The pub giant, which runs around 2,600 pubs as well as hotels and restaurants, launched Cornerstone Pubs on August 26.
What the new concept means
It does not mean thousands of Greene King pubs are being replaced or renamed. Instead, some venues which previously sat within the company's value and carvery formats are being brought together under the new concept.
Cornerstone Pubs will focus on local community pubs, with Greene King promising customers "everyday great value".
Minimal immediate changes for customers
People who regularly visit one of the pubs involved should not notice a big difference straight away. The venues will keep their existing branding for the time being, while their current staff and management teams will also remain in place.
However, customers could start to see some changes in the future. Greene King could introduce different menus at the pubs, while changes could also be made to the entertainment on offer.
Company statement and other brands
Clair Preston Beer, chief digital and commercial officer at Greene King, said: "We continue to invest in our core estate and set our pubs up for long-term success with a clear focus on our customers.
"Cornerstone Pubs helps to strengthen our value-led offering in local communities across the country, bringing together our existing value and carvery formats to enhance customer experience and drive operational excellence."
The new concept will sit alongside several other Greene King pub brands already operating around the country. These include Chef & Brewer, which has traditional pubs in countryside locations, as well as Flaming Grill and Wacky Warehouse.
Broader estate developments
The launch comes as Greene King is also looking at the future of some other pubs in its large estate. A total of 65 pubs are currently under review for a possible sale as the company makes changes to its business.
Earlier this year, Greene King also confirmed plans to convert a further 150 venues into tenanted pubs. However, those plans are separate from the launch of Cornerstone Pubs.
