Gingerbread Doritos Return to Sainsbury's, Shoppers Unimpressed

Gingerbread-flavoured Doritos have returned to Sainsbury's shelves for a second consecutive festive season, sparking mixed reactions from shoppers. The limited-edition tortilla chips, which first appeared exactly 12 months ago, have been spotted in stores in mid-October, well ahead of December.

A Polarising Flavour Returns

The sweet and savoury crisp, made by PepsiCo-owned Doritos, has evidently proved popular enough to warrant another run. On its website, Doritos said: "We've spent the last few years seeing how we can create the perfect Doritos crunch, whilst not compromising on the taste you know and love. The great news is, we've finally cracked it (or should we say crunched it). Our bolder crunch chip was given a big thumbs up by Doritos fans during taste testing, so we're confident you'll love it too."

New Foods UK announced the product's return on Instagram, posting: "Gingerbread Doritos are back at Sainsbury's." The supermarket's website lists 180g sharing bags priced at £2.50, with the product described as: "Enjoy the full-on crunch with intense gingerbread flavour."

Shoppers React

Reactions on social media have been largely negative. One customer commented: "Not these again. I just manage to get rid of them at the summer village tombola." Another asked: "Why are they bringing these back? Literally no one wants these back."

A third shopper declared: "I'm not making that mistake again," while a fourth added: "They did them last year too and I didn't know anyone who liked them." Others expressed curiosity and tagged Facebook friends, urging them to try the crisps.

Festive Range Details

When the flavour launched last year, Rob Pothier, marketing director at PepsiCo, said: "Christmas is a time of togetherness and joy - and our festive snack range is designed to reflect just that. We're excited to unveil a strong seasonal offering that not only taps into consumer demand for special flavours and formats but also supports retailers in maximising sales during the festive period."

He added: "With bold new flavours like Doritos Gingerbread, Walkers Emmental Cheese and Walkers Beef Wellington - which we expect to stir up conversations and intrigue with an unexpected seasonal twist - and festive pack designs, we're helping consumers make every moment of the season a little more joyful." Both Walkers Emmental Cheese and Walkers Beef Wellington have also been found in Tesco stores this year.

Doritos stated on Sainsbury's website: "At Doritos, we believe no one should settle for boring crisps and snacks. When it comes to bold snacking experiences, we're where it's at. With intense flavours, a full-on crunch, and a range of sizes for every occasion, Doritos snacks are made for enjoying on the go or sharing with mates. Unleash bold crunch, bold flavours with Doritos. For the Bold in Everyone."
