More than half of 14 to 29-year-olds consider traditional British meals dated, while less than half have eaten fish and chips at the seaside. Restaurant chain wagamama is attempting to bring the British classic up to date by giving fish and chips an Asian-inspired twist.
Limited-edition ramen bowl launch
From October 7, the chain will launch a limited-edition take on the traditional fish supper, swapping the chip-shop paper for a ramen bowl. The dish features wagamama’s ramen noodles in a curry broth, topped with tempura-battered hake, crispy sweet potato chips and crushed edamame, and finished with fresh pea shoots, coriander and chilli.
Chef's view on fusion trend
Steve Mangleshot, Global Executive Chef and Brand Ambassador at wagamama, said: "Fusion food and ‘Brit-ish’ nostalgia is a major market trend guests love when executed with playfulness and quality. We wanted to deliver something genuinely fun and unexpected for October, welcoming everyone to pull up a bench and join the debate - regardless of whether they consider it a masterpiece or madness."
