Edith Owen Revives Ravenseat Cream Tea Tradition in New Business
Edith Owen Revives Ravenseat Cream Tea Tradition

Amanda Owen's daughter Edith has achieved a significant milestone at Ravenseat Farm by reviving the cherished cream tea tradition, which had been discontinued. The Yorkshire Shepherdess lives and works at Ravenseat Farm with her former husband Clive and their nine children. Their original documentary, Our Yorkshire Farm, first aired on Channel 5 in 2018 and became one of the channel's most-watched shows.

Return to Television

The family returned to television this month for the fourth series of Channel 4's Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids. The follow-up documentary follows the family as they restore a 200-year-old farmhouse in the Yorkshire Dales. The latest series has already featured the arrival of three new puppies, with the children demonstrating their skills in various farming tasks.

Before achieving television fame, Amanda served cream teas to visitors at their Swaledale estate. Now, Edith, the fourth-eldest child, has taken on the responsibility to resurrect this tradition. During a recent live appearance in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, Amanda discussed the importance of the cream teas to the family.

Edith's Business Venture

Amanda said: "It's an empire built on cups of tea really, where any good business starts. We did cream teas initially on the Coast to Coast run, they stopped but they're back now. Edith is running that with the help of others."

She continued: "It's exciting to see the children getting opportunities. We gave Edith the little pop-up serving hatch, and she's made a business out of it." Amanda also disclosed that Edith "fired" her younger sister Clemmy after she audibly sighed when a visitor asked for a photograph.

Public Praise and Support

Last month, Amanda marked Edith's achievement on Instagram by sharing a guest's glowing account of enjoying cream tea at the farm. The caption read: "Edith, you are so very lovely and you should feel proud of what you have achieved. Thank you @heleneinbetween for posting about your visit, it was lovely to welcome you to our farm."

Followers responded with encouragement, with one commenting: "Edith is amazing!!!! She was so kind too." Another added: "Beautiful young lady, and clever too, we were at yours in March, so gutted we missed this, hopefully next year."

A third remarked: "Best scones I've ever tasted and will be back again soon. Well done Edith, Violet and everyone and thank you. It was so delicious I nearly forgot to take a photo!!" Someone else commented: "Well done Edith, be very proud of yourself, you are a beautiful girl, so kind and caring. Amanda all your family are pure joy and a credit to both you and Clive. We've watched your series from day one and have loved watching the children all grow up. Would love to visit Ravenseat one day." A fifth admirer added: "Fabulous, well done Edith, you are a superstar."

Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids airs Monday nights at 9pm on More4.
