Coco Pops Taste Test: M&S Beats Kellogg's with Cheaper Alternative
Coco Pops Taste Test: M&S Tops Kellogg's in Supermarket Showdown

Kellogg's Coco Pops hold a special place in many Brits' hearts, but at £2.85 for a 420g box, the childhood classic may be due for a cheaper swap. The burning question: do supermarket-branded versions deliver the same crunchy texture and chocolatey taste after milk is poured?

The Taste Test Method

Emily Malia tested Coco Pops alternatives from Asda, Lidl, Tesco and M&S, comparing them against the original. Each cereal was served in a bowl with milk drizzled to half-fill it, mimicking an ordinary morning routine.

Asda Choco Snaps - 3/5

At £1.20, Asda's Choco Snaps are thinner and darker, but the colour quickly fades in milk. The chocolate taste is less prevalent, and the thinness causes them to wilt faster, potentially turning bland in a large bowl.

M&S Choco Pops - 5/5

Also £1.20, M&S Choco Pops are described as 'toasted puffed rice cereal' and are high in vitamins and iron. They are super crunchy and chocolaty, with a strong dark chocolate edge that turns the milk chocolatey brown. Emily rated them a perfect 5/5, stating they taste really similar to Coco Pops.

Lidl Cocoa Snaps - 3/5

Lidl's version at £1.15 is smaller and less dark, with a less crispy texture that goes soggy quickly. The chocolate taste is sweeter and less rich, becoming sickly for the reviewer.

Tesco Choco Snaps - 4/5

Tesco's £1.25 Choco Snaps offer a cheap and cheerful alternative, though recipe changes have irked some customers. Emily found them sweet, chocolaty, and a close match to Kellogg's flavour, making them a high-priority swap.

Kellogg's Original - 5/5

The original at £2.85 is hard to beat, but M&S comes very close. Kellogg's provides a tasty breakfast full of fibre and iron, but for the stark price difference, either M&S or Tesco would suffice without a huge difference, especially for kids. However, the chocolate coating on Kellogg's remains uniquely satisfying.

Ultimately, even Kellogg's goes soggy in milk over time, so the cheaper alternatives are worth considering.
