A car ploughed into an ice cream hut after leaving the road and smashing through a fence in Bronnington, Wales, leaving the owners devastated. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at Oaks Farm Ice Cream, located on the Welsh border in Whitchurch.
Owner's Close Call and Arrest
Owner Anna Edwards said she was in the hut just moments before the crash with someone on work experience, calling it a "miracle" no one was hurt. North Wales Police confirmed that a man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with the crash.
Ms Edwards described the car as appearing "airborne" as it left Ellesmere Road before crashing through a paddock fence and hitting the hut. "My family and I are absolutely devastated. Years of hard work, love and dedication into building this little business felt like they were torn apart in a matter of seconds," she said.
Hut Demolished and Business Impact
The hut was "totally demolished" according to Ms Edwards. She added that after the crash, the driver got out and urinated over the wreckage, leaving her "devastated and disgusted." The extensive damage means the ice cream hut will be closed over the weekend as the family assesses the damage and works to reopen as soon as possible.
North Wales Police received a call at 3:39 pm on Wednesday reporting a single-vehicle collision. Officers attended and found the vehicle had left the road and struck a building. The investigation is ongoing.
