The Quayside Hotel, a seaside property in the fishing town of Brixham, Devon, has reportedly entered administration after remaining closed following a planned refurbishment. According to a notice published in The Gazette, the UK's official public record, administrators were appointed on June 5. Joint administrators from Richard J Smith & Co, Jonathan David Trembath and Samuel Adam Bailey, are overseeing the process from the firm’s office in Ivybridge, Devon.
Hotel closure and refurbishment plans
The Quayside Hotel, situated on King Street with views over Brixham harbour, shut in late 2022 for a substantial upgrade of its rooms, dining areas, and wider facilities. The hotel was originally expected to reopen in 2025, marking a "new chapter" for the historic waterfront property. However, it never reopened, and administrators have now been appointed, as reported by BusinessLive.
Hotel facilities and history
The hotel featured a bar and a restaurant. On its website, the hotel described itself as a "charismatic" establishment dating back to the 18th century, offering "unbroken views of Brixham harbour." It highlighted its central location near the harbourside, beach, and town centre, as well as access to South Devon beaches, coastal walks, and the English Riviera. Amenities included four-poster beds, sea view rooms, free Wi-Fi, and live entertainment.
The Quayside Restaurant and Ernie Lister bar were popular among guests. The hotel held a 4.3-star rating on Google, with past guests praising the comfortable rooms, friendly staff, and excellent food. One reviewer noted a "lovely 3 night stay" with a "comfortable bedroom overlooking the harbour," while another called it a "lovely quirky place" with amazing food.
