All Beefeater and Brewers Fayre pub-restaurants in Wales will close in September, with final trading dates now confirmed for nine Brewers Fayre venues and five Beefeater sites across the country. Owner Whitbread has announced the closures as part of plans to slash costs by £250 million.
Closure dates confirmed
Whitbread confirmed in July that all Beefeater locations throughout the UK will close on Thursday, September 10. The hospitality giant has now revealed that Brewers Fayre restaurants across the UK will cease trading after dinner service on Monday, September 7. Brands including Bar + Block, Table Table and Cookhouse + Pub will close on September 3.
Approximately 3,800 jobs are at risk as Whitbread shifts its focus towards becoming a hotel operator, converting a number of the sites into Premier Inns.
Welsh venues affected
The Beefeaters in Wales closing on September 10 are Bagle Brook in Port Talbot, The Coldra in Newport, The Longbow in Rhondda Cynon Taff (Llantrisant), Walston Castle in Cardiff / Wenvoe, and The Waterfront in Swansea.
The Brewers Fayres in Wales closing on September 7 are Abergavenny in Monmouthshire / Abergavenny, Afon Conwy in Conwy, Barry Island in the Vale of Glamorgan, Crossways in Caerphilly, Ocean Park in Cardiff, The Sandpiper in Carmarthenshire (Llanelli), Swansea Vale in Swansea, Tirfounder Fields in Rhondda Cynon Taff (Aberdare), and Victoria Park in Gwent (Ebbw Vale).
Campaign to save Bagle Brook
A campaign has been launched to save the much-loved Bagle Brook restaurant in Baglan. Local councillors stated that while they appreciated the considerable commercial pressures and challenges facing the hospitality sector, the impact on local employment, livelihoods and community wellbeing deserved equal consideration.
They said: "For many people locally this is far more than simply a restaurant. The Bagle Brook has become an important part of community life in Baglan."
