Bodycare, the beauty chain that collapsed into administration last year, is returning to the UK high street with the opening of its second new store in Derby on Saturday, August 22. The brand, rescued by former The Body Shop CEO Charles Denton, is set to open 17 revitalised stores across the nation before the end of this year, with a long-term goal of reaching 200 locations over the next five years.
Comeback after administration
Bodycare, founded in Lancashire in 1970, collapsed into administration on September 5 last year. The news led to the immediate closure of 32 stores before a phased shutdown of the remaining 115 locations, resulting in over 1,000 redundancies as administrators from advisory firm Interpath were appointed. The brand was rescued by Mr Denton in October.
The first new Bodycare Studio opened in Sheffield last month, followed by a second branch in the Derbion shopping centre in Derby on Saturday. The revamped Studio stores offer a modernised shopping experience, including content creator studios fitted with professional lighting and kits, new product ranges such as K-beauty collections, and professional piercing services.
New store experience and locations
Bodycare chief executive Charles Denton said: "By combining retail with live content, creator experiences and expert-led brand events, the format allows customers to discover emerging products, trends and advice in an interactive environment."
He added: "Derbion gives us the right space in the right part of the city, and the reception we had in Sheffield told us how much people want Bodycare back in their town."
Beth McDonald, managing director of Derbion, said: "We're hugely excited to welcome Bodycare back to Derbion with a brand new concept store. As well as offering exceptional value for customers, the Creator Studio will be a brilliant addition which is sure to prove extremely popular with our local community here in Derby."
