Gothic brand Blue Banana to open 'chaos' store on Bold Street
Blue Banana to open 'chaos' store on Bold Street

A new business promising to unleash 'chaos' is preparing to launch on Bold Street. Blue Banana has revealed its first Liverpool store will be a full-scale local 'takeover', not just an opening.

What is Blue Banana?

Blue Banana is an alternative and gothic fashion brand specialising in clothing, footwear, band merchandise, and hair dye. The business also offers on-site piercing and jewellery. The brand already operates 17 sites across England and Wales, alongside an online store. The Bold Street location will be the brand's first venture into Liverpool.

Announcement and opening details

Announcing its arrival, Blue Banana said: 'We're coming for you Liverpool! New store. New chaos. New piercings. This isn't just a shop, it's a takeover!' The business is set to open in the former Take 2 charity shop premises, which closed in November last year. The opening date is scheduled for Saturday, June 13 at 10:30am.

Opening day offers

There will be a special goodie bag for the first customer at launch, and smaller goodie bags handed out to guests while stocks last. A wheel will be available for customers to spin, offering free gifts, free piercings, and extra giveaways throughout the day. To mark the occasion, Blue Banana will run opening offer discounts across the store.

History of the premises

The former Take 2 premises was once the next-door neighbour of beloved fancy dress shop Smiffys, whose bright red doors opened on Bold Street for more than 20 years. The 130-year-old business shut down its Bold Street branch in November last year after going into administration due to 'a huge drop in demand for costume and party products.'

Changes on Bold Street

Opportunities for high street shopping have diminished on Bold Street over the years, with the recent closure of one of the street's original 'fab four' stores, Ellis Brigham, which first opened in 1964. Proposals were quickly submitted to transform the former mountain clothing shop into the Coco Brazil Rodizio Bar & Grill, while Smiffys, which shut down in November 2024, was replaced by family-run tapas bar So Salsa.
