Blank Street Coffee is opening its first Liverpool city centre store in Liverpool ONE, with the brand confirming it plans to be up and running by mid-October.
The American chain is taking over the former home of Krispy Kreme on Paradise Street. The donut brand has moved to a spot near UNIQLO, just a stone's throw away. The site is currently covered in fencing with no building in place.
Expansion across the UK
Blank Street Coffee already operates several locations in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow. The brand started as a coffee cart in the garden of a Brooklyn diner in 2020 and has expanded massively across the Atlantic, opening its first UK site in London in 2022, with more locations across New York, Boston, and DC.
The company has lined up new openings in Bristol and Cambridge, coinciding with the Liverpool city centre opening. The coffee chain is known for its mint green visual identity and viral matcha offerings.
Store details and hiring
An exact opening date for Liverpool is yet to be confirmed, but the brand is hiring online for baristas and team leader roles. Blank Street is expected to have internal seating for 12 people, with the kiosk estimated to serve 400–450 customers per day, rising to around 800 per day at peak times.
Customers would place orders with members of staff rather than using self-service kiosks. No toilet facilities are proposed due to the small-scale, takeaway nature of the unit and the customer toilets available at Liverpool ONE.
Liverpool ONE's recent openings
It has been a massive year for Liverpool ONE and new brands, the latest of which opened just last week. Lefties, the sister brand of Zara, opened its first UK store in Liverpool. Its parent company Inditex also owns Bershka, Stradivarius and Pull&Bear, and the brand has transformed the space Sports Direct long called home.
Founded in 1999, Lefties has been developing ever since, with the launch of its own collections over a decade ago. Lefties can be found in 20 countries spanning across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. The new 27,000 sq ft flagship store stocks women's, men's, teen, kids, baby, newborn, home, accessories and footwear collections.
The South John Street venue focuses on customer experience by including some of the latest retail technology already seen at the brand's more recent European openings. The store has a number of smart fitting rooms leading to an automated clothes sorter, robotic hanger sorters and radio-frequency identification-assisted checkouts, avoiding the need to scan each item separately.
