The BLACK+DECKER Mouse Compact Detail Sander is available for £16.49 on Amazon, reduced from £24.56 in a limited-time deal that saves buyers 33%. Described by one shopper as the "perfect tool for sanding", the device is aimed at DIY enthusiasts looking to complete home improvement projects without spending a fortune.
The sander comes with 15 accessories, making it a versatile option for jobs around the home such as restoring old furniture, preparing surfaces for painting, or smoothing rough edges. Despite its compact size, it delivers a speed of 11,000 RPM, helping users achieve a smooth finish on materials including wood and metal. It can also be used for certain glass cleaning applications with suitable accessories.
Design and features
Its distinctive mouse-shaped design makes it particularly useful for detailed work, while the interchangeable sanding tips allow users to reach tight corners, edges, and awkward spaces without needing a separate tool. The kit includes sanding sheets in different grits, which can be quickly swapped using a hook-and-loop fastening system, making it easy to switch between tasks.
There is also a continuous-use rocker switch, meaning users do not have to keep a trigger pressed down throughout the job. This could be particularly handy when working on larger projects or spending longer periods sanding. For added comfort, the sander features a soft rubber grip designed to provide better control and reduce hand fatigue, while its lightweight construction makes it easier to manoeuvre around smaller surfaces. The tool also features a dust collection system to help manage sanding debris, alongside a storage bag for keeping the accessories together when they are not in use.
Alternative options
Other options include the Challenge Corded Sheet Sander - 135W for £12 from Argos. This one provides 1100rpm for "efficient sanding of doors, windows and flat wood" and has a built-in extraction system to keep things clean. At Yimbly, an online marketplace owned by this publication's parent company Reach Plc, there is the Breeins Electric Drywall Sander with Vacuum Dust Collection for £82, down from £99. It offers a 2800rpm motor, six variable speeds to choose from, and adjustable suction options. There is also a pivoting 90-degree head to ensure flexible movement and coverage, including the ceilings.
Customer reviews
The BLACK+DECKER Mouse Compact Detail Sander has racked up a 4.5 out of 5 star rating on Amazon. One person wrote: "Why did we not buy one of these years ago? Just the perfect tool for sanding. Can get a great choice of sanding paper for different surfaces. Does the job without stress. Fits well in the palm of your hand, good control. I would definitely recommend it."
Another added: "Came with plenty of attachments and a handy carry bag. I'm pleased with the purchase, and also came with plenty of replacement pads to keep me going for a while." A third buyer wrote: "Was recommended this by a friend when I was sanding my stair spindles. I wish I had bought it years ago. Quite powerful, but it's the size that's the best thing - it gets into those awkward spaces and saves the hands using sand paper. Price is not going to break the bank either."
Some disagreed slightly, with one shopper saying: "Great little sander, the on off button could be a bit easier as it's sort of all in one but otherwise good value. Does need a small Allen key to undo one of the screws to change the corner part." Another wrote as part of a longer review: "Unfortunately, I found this sander to be very difficult to use/manoeuvre."
