KP Frozen Foods Factory Shop in Birkenhead sells frozen food at wholesale prices to the public two days a week, with most items at least 40% cheaper than their retail price. The shop, located in Unit 5 Valley Road Business Park, does not require a membership, unlike most wholesale shops.
Inside the shop
Nestled between commercial units on an industrial estate, the shop has a deceptively small frontage but is surprisingly large inside. Rows of freezers containing everything from party food and ready meals to meat, fish and pizzas run from the checkout area to the back of the warehouse.
The shop was busy on a Thursday afternoon, with a constant stream of cars pulling into the car park and families filling their trolleys. The pricing can seem slightly confusing, with the price on the food's packaging different from the price listed on the ticket, but the cheaper ticket price is what the shop sells the products at.
Deals and opening times
Most items are at least 40% cheaper than their retail price. Deals include 1kg of frozen chips for £1.16, 2kg of crispy chicken nuggets for £7.20, and a boneless half crispy duck with 12 pancakes and hoisin sauce for £3.57. Other items include pillows, drinks, coffee, sugar, biscuits and crisps.
The shop is open to the public on Thursdays from 8am until 5.30pm and Sundays from 8am until 4pm. Card and cash payments are both accepted.
Owner's response
Owner Noel Davies said: "We're a factory shop and about 70% of the products in here are produced on site. We made the decision a few months ago to start supplying to the public and we opened six weeks ago.
"We didn't start advertising on social media until a month ago and we've gone from maybe 40 families coming through the door to serving 500 to 750 families on the days we're open.
"People from Birkenhead and Merseyside come in here and they're buying frozen food at the same price that we wholesale to retailers so in effect that's about 40% off the normal retail price."
