Bradley Barcola has been officially announced as a Liverpool player, completing a £123million move from Paris Saint-Germain. The French international becomes the club's marquee signing of the summer as the Reds look to replace Mohamed Salah, who departed at the end of last season.
Why Barcola chose Liverpool over Arsenal
Barcola had been linked with a move to Liverpool throughout the summer, with Arsenal also credited with interest. The winger fell out of favour under Luis Enrique at the back-to-back European champions and was allowed to leave by the Parisians.
PSG had initially valued Barcola closer to £150m, a fee that Liverpool were never willing to meet. The two clubs eventually agreed on a £123m package.
Barcola's first words as a Liverpool player
Speaking after his announcement, Barcola told the official website: "It's a great pride to be able to play for Liverpool. I'm very happy. It took a long time but I'm really happy today to be able to play for Liverpool and all I want is to be on the pitch and be able to play."
He added: "I hope to achieve very big things. First of all, winning the Premier League – it's one of my biggest dreams in my life. It is to do that and to stay in this team in the long term – that's why I signed a long contract – and I hope I can do it."
Further signings on the horizon
After back-to-back draws to kick-start the season, there is still a clamour for Liverpool to add further additions to their squad. Another forward signing is being touted, with Ismaila Sarr and Yankuba Minteh mentioned as potential signings.
Liverpool saw back-to-back bids for Minteh rejected by Brighton before turning attention to Sarr, who is said to be holding out for a move to a Premier League club. Galatasaray had submitted an offer to Crystal Palace for Sarr, but the Senegalese international wants to remain in England.
