MoneySavingExpert recently highlighted George at Asda among the supermarkets offering school uniform items at a bargain price, although it warned that some of the cheapest stock was already beginning to run low.
Polo shirts from £1.50 each
One of the cheapest options is Asda's short-sleeve stain release polo shirts, which are £1.50 each. They come in packs of two from £3 or packs of five from £7.50 and are made from 100% cotton, with a wide variety of colours available.

The supermarket giant has also previously held prices on selected school uniform pieces since 2023, helping parents keep the cost of replacing everyday essentials down. George at Asda also picked up the award for Best School Uniform for comfort in the MadeForMums School Uniform Awards 2026.
These latest prices could prove useful for families looking to keep spending under control, particularly as the cost of school uniform can quickly mount up. MoneySavingExpert reported that parents spend an average of £422 a year on school uniform for each secondary school child and £287 for each primary school child.
As such, MoneySavingExpert does recommend shopping around supermarkets where possible, noting that they can often be among the cheapest places to buy new uniform if a child's school does not require parents to use a specialist supplier. With the school holidays now nearing their end, parents may want to get their uniform shopping sorted sooner rather than later, particularly with some of the cheapest sizes and styles already proving popular.
