Asda Introduces 700 On-Site Laundrettes Across UK Stores
Asda is enhancing its customer experience by launching a new on-site laundrette service in partnership with ME Group, installing 700 washing machines and dryers across its stores nationwide. This initiative aims to combine grocery shopping with laundry chores, providing a convenient solution for busy households.
Expanding Services for Greater Convenience
The rollout includes Asda Supercentres, Superstores, supermarkets, and Express stores, each equipped with laundry facilities featuring 9kg and 20kg drums and high-speed drying options. These services will be available 24/7, allowing customers to wash and dry clothes at any time while completing their food shopping.
Joseph Sutton, Vice President of Asda Express, foodservice, and fuel, stated, "We're always looking for new ways to make life easier for our customers, particularly by expanding services that meet their needs under one roof. This large-scale rollout offers a quick, convenient, and value-driven laundry solution."
Partnership with ME Group Drives Innovation
ME Group, which operates over 7,600 Wash.ME laundry machines internationally, including 1,500 in the UK, sees Asda as an ideal partner. Vladimir Crasneanscki, Deputy CEO of ME Group, commented, "Asda's retail and petrol stations are excellent locations for our services, enhancing accessibility for customers."
Context Amid Economic Pressures
This launch comes as consumer experts warn of potential price hikes in everyday staples due to global tensions, such as the Iran conflict, which has driven up oil prices. Sebrina McCullough, director of external relations at Money Wellness, highlighted that rising energy costs could trigger a second wave of the cost-of-living crisis, with food prices possibly increasing by 5 to 9 percent. She noted that disposable income has dropped by an average of £79 between 2023 and 2025, potentially leading to more households needing food bank referrals.
Asda's new laundry service is positioned as a practical response to these challenges, offering customers an efficient way to manage household tasks amid financial strains.
