Asda is offering free sun cream to help certain customers avoid the same mistake as Declan Rice, who was looking particularly rosy in the latest England squad pictures. The England midfielder was notably sunburnt in pre-tournament pictures, with a telltale watch strap line and pink forehead that caught the attention of football fans on social media.
Players from all 48 nations travelled in advance of the tournament to acclimatise, but Declan Rice revealed his mum told him off for forgetting to wear sun protection. He joked to the BBC: "I think everyone's seen them photos... I was bright red at that photoshoot, my mum was killing me."
Asda's Offer for Declans
Asda is now offering a £5.70 suncream to people named Declan, so that his namesakes don't make the same error. Asda Rewards users named Declan can claim a free bottle of sun cream via the app until kick-off for England's match against Croatia on Wednesday June 17, at 9pm. The offer applies to a 200ml bottle of the SPF50 Asda Protect Sensitive Formula Sun Lotion.
Alyssa Ashford, Asda's suncare buyer, said: "We've all been there – a bit of sunshine, a busy day, and before you know it, you've caught the sun. After hearing Declan Rice got a telling-off from his mum, our motherly instincts kicked in. We just wanted to step in and make sure Declans everywhere stay protected and don't make the same mistake. Whether they're out watching the football or counting down to England's big match, hopefully there'll be fewer mums needing to have a stern word with their Declan."
How to Redeem
To redeem, customers named Declan need to log into the Asda Rewards app, head to their Rewards and claim their free sun cream before Wednesday's 9pm kick-off.
