Asda Introduces Convenient 'Wash While You Shop' Laundry Service in UK Stores
Asda has unveiled a groundbreaking new service designed to simplify the lives of its customers by allowing them to handle laundry chores while shopping. The supermarket giant has partnered with ME Group International to roll out up to 700 Wash.ME self-service laundry machines across its network of stores, aiming to provide a seamless and efficient solution for busy households.
Expanding Services to Enhance Customer Convenience
Launching from May, the Wash.ME units will be installed in Asda Supercentres, Superstores, supermarkets, and Express locations. This initiative is part of Asda's strategy to broaden the range of services available under one roof, making daily errands more manageable for shoppers. The company emphasises that this move will "make life easier" by enabling customers to accomplish two tasks simultaneously—shopping and laundry.
Joseph Sutton, Vice President of Asda Express, foodservice, and fuel, highlighted the company's commitment to innovation. "We're always looking for new ways to make life easier for the customers who shop with us, particularly by strengthening the breadth of services that meet their needs under one roof," he stated. "This large-scale rollout of Wash.ME units gives customers a quick, convenient, and great-value way to tackle their laundry while they shop."
Features and Flexibility of the New Laundry Service
The Wash.ME machines are equipped with large-capacity 9kg and 20kg drums, energy-efficient cycles, and high-speed drying capabilities. This setup accommodates everything from everyday laundry to larger household loads, ensuring versatility for various customer needs. Many locations will offer 24/7 access to these machines, providing even greater flexibility for shoppers with hectic schedules.
Vladimir Crasneanscki, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of ME Group, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. "Asda is a perfect company to partner with, their retail and petrol stations are excellent locations for our services and their innovative and fast-paced approach will enable us to deploy our units rapidly," he said. "We are delighted to announce this partnership; this is the largest single client deal in the history of our laundry division and demonstrates the growing demand for our services."
Strategic Growth and Market Leadership
ME Group currently operates over 7,600 Wash.ME laundry machines across 12 countries, with more than 1,500 located in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. The partnership with Asda aligns with the Group's aggressive growth strategy, which includes installing more than 1,300 Wash.ME machines in the fiscal year 2026 and a long-term goal of exceeding 20,000 machines globally.
Crasneanscki added, "The rapid expansion of our Wash.ME laundry services is a key strategic priority for the Group, driven by strong consumer demand. In 2025, we announced a record number of Wash.ME machine installations of 1,326 across our geographies, and we have clear ambitions to continue building on this progress. This partnership is indicative of our intention to further cement our UK market-leading position in the unattended laundry segment."
This collaboration marks a significant step in Asda's efforts to enhance its retail offerings, providing customers with added convenience and value. By integrating laundry services into its stores, Asda aims to strengthen its position as a one-stop destination for everyday needs, reflecting broader trends in retail innovation and customer-centric services.
