Asda has launched a new milk chocolate bar with a custard cream flavour filling, and shoppers are praising it as a worthy rival to M&S's popular treats. One Facebook user who tried the bar called it a “10/10”, while another said it's “lovely”, according to Metro.
New sweet treat on Asda shelves
The £2 bar is described as milk chocolate with hazelnut paste, vanilla flavour and a crushed biscuit centre. Asda is also stocking a jammy donut version of the milk chocolate bar, with a vanilla and raspberry flavour filling.
Other new items, such as the Cornflake & Almond Crunchy Clusters and Malted Choc Balls, have also been added to the supermarket's shelves, according to Metro.
Shoppers compare to M&S
Shoppers have described the new additions as “very M&S coded”. Social media users said they were “running” to the UK's third-largest supermarket chain to taste the new products.
The launch follows an apparent boom in demand for the classic biscuit, after M&S's new custard cream spread and giant chocolate-covered custard cream became a huge hit with shoppers. Morrisons already sells a custard cream chocolate bar, which also reportedly costs £2.
Background on custard creams
The quintessential British biscuits, often enjoyed with a cup of tea, are believed to have first appeared more than 100 years ago in 1908.
