Apricot has ceased trading at the Metrocentre in Gateshead, closing its doors on Tuesday, August 25, three years after opening its 'largest store yet' at the mall. Shutters are now down at the shop, with a notice on the doors pointing customers towards the brand's website for their shopping.
Store opened with excitement in 2023
When it was announced that Apricot was bringing its womenswear to the North East, there was significant excitement given the brand's success in other UK towns and cities. The retailer, known for its playful prints and effortless style, took over an empty unit in the Upper Platinum Mall.
At the time of the opening, Apricot Director Philip Chaimo said: "We're currently in an exciting phase of expansion and we're delighted to add Metrocentre, an iconic retail destination in the north, to our list of locations. We look forward to welcoming new and existing customers through our doors over the coming weeks and months."
Metrocentre welcomes new fashion arrivals
The closure of Apricot comes just as the Metrocentre is welcoming two other high-profile fashion businesses. Lefties, described by shoppers as 'like Zara' but with Primark prices, will open directly opposite the vast H Beauty store, while Hollister expanded to open at the Metrocentre in June, having been in Eldon Square in Newcastle for years.
