Aldi Introduces 75% Discount on Perishable Items to Cut Waste

Aldi is launching a new initiative across all its 912 UK stores, slashing prices on perishable products by 75% on their last day of sale. The move aims to offer customers even greater savings while reducing food waste.

The discounts will apply to items such as bread, meat, and fruit and vegetables, which are marked with a red sticker. Previously, Aldi reduced prices only on best-before or use-by dates, but the new policy offers steeper reductions.

Products will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, with the timing of reductions varying by store. The supermarket hopes this will help it meet a target of halving food waste by 2030.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi, said: “Aldi is already known for its low prices, but these discounts will help some shoppers to cut their grocery bills even further – all while helping us reduce food waste.” She added that customers should look out for the red stickers but be quick, as the products are expected to be popular.
