Aldi will release its new Casalux Textile Floor Lamp on Sunday, November 1, priced at £16.99, offering UK shoppers a budget-friendly alternative to B&Q's £62.99 Eglo Troy 3 Lamp, with running costs of less than 1p per hour.
The lamp is part of Aldi's 'Festive Home' collection, which includes candles, cushions, throws, and lamps, arriving as part of the supermarket's Special Buy refresh this weekend. Available in black, silver, white, and gold, the lamp is designed for the colder months when evenings are darker and people spend more time indoors.
Design and Features
According to Aldi's product description, the lamp is designed to "bring warmth and charm to your seasonal displays with this decorative floor lamp. Its soft illumination and timeless design make it an ideal addition to living rooms, hallways, or festive table settings. Three dimming modes. Height adjustable."
The Aldi Casalux lamp features a lightweight fabric shade and is generally shorter and wider than its B&Q counterpart, giving it a chunkier presence in the room. In contrast, the B&Q Eglo Troy 3 Lamp has a premium, heavy white satin glass cylindrical shade with a satin nickel steel base, standing at 153cm high with a narrow diameter of 10.5cm.
Energy Efficiency and Running Costs
The Casalux lamp is part of Aldi's dedicated energy-saving lighting brand, designed around low-wattage LED technology rather than traditional incandescent bulbs. The lamp either ships with an E27 LED bulb included or features built-in, dimmable LED light strips, according to official retail specifications and user manuals.
Assuming a standard UK energy unit rate of 24.5p per kWh, a typical setup using an 8W LED bulb costs roughly 0.2p per hour to operate. Leaving the lamp on for five hours every evening adds about 1p to a daily electricity bill, or roughly 30p across a month. Even with two 6W LED bulbs totalling 12W, it costs 0.3p per hour, meaning about 100 hours of continuous use would accumulate just 29p in energy costs.
The B&Q lamp costs £62.99, uses a single E27 bulb socket, and does not include a lightbulb, while the Aldi lamp comes fully ready to use with energy-efficient LED lighting included.
