Aldi XXL Candle Is a Budget John Lewis Dupe

Aldi's new £24.99 Winter Spice XXL Inclusion Candle provides up to 200 hours of burn time, making it a budget-friendly alternative to a similar £85 candle sold by John Lewis.

The supermarket is launching a range of 'Festive Home' Special Buy deals this weekend, featuring 'soft' throws, 'fluffy' cushions, and XXL candles. New Middle Aisle offers arrive every Thursday and Sunday.

The Aldi Candle and Its Price

Part of Aldi's Hotel Collection range, the Winter Spice XXL Inclusion Candle weighs 4.5kg and costs £24.99. It goes on sale from Sunday, November 1. Shoppers can choose between Scandinavian Forest and Winter Spice fragrances.

Aldi describes the product: "This handmade round XXL wax candle with natural inclusions is perfect for brightening up your holiday season. A great gift for a loved one, or yourself. Burn time: 200 hours (approx.)"

The John Lewis Candle

John Lewis sells a Winter Spice XL Five Wick Pillar Candle, weighing 4.4kg, for £85. Its description reads: "A festive blend of spicy cinnamon, clove and orange combined with warm spices and sandalwood."

"Designed for elegance and functionality, the cosy vibes fat pillar features a hard outer shell that not only enhances its aesthetic appeal but also ensures safety during use. Inside, a soft wax core burns beautifully, providing a generous burn time of up to 100 hours."

Comparing the Two Candles

The two candles are highly similar in style, size, and fragrance. Both are large, multi-wick festive candles designed as a centrepiece for holiday decor, with a hard outer shell that retains its shape while the centre melts, creating a lantern-like glow. They share a nearly identical "Winter Spice" scent profile built around notes of orange, cinnamon, and clove.

The Aldi version costs £24.99 and offers up to 200 hours of burn time using six wicks, while the John Lewis candle costs £85 and offers up to 100 hours using five wicks. That means the Aldi version provides double the burn time for less than a third of the price.

In size, the Aldi candle weighs 4.5kg and stands at 15cm, while the John Lewis candle weighs 4.4kg and stands at 12cm. The only other minor difference is scent depth: the John Lewis candle includes extra base notes, such as sandalwood and ginger, for a slightly more complex fragrance.
