Aldi has announced that eight newly upgraded stores across the UK will welcome customers again over the next few weeks, just in time for Christmas. The retailer says the reopenings follow a “significant” investment in improvements.
The stores in Cardiff, Dunston, Witham, Perth, London, Liskeard, Greenock and Bradford are set to reopen between November 5 and December 3. Aldi says the upgrades form part of its £300 million investment in its existing store estate.
What the upgrades include
The upgrades include store extensions, refreshed shopping areas and more energy-efficient technology. According to the company, customers will also benefit from improvements to key areas of the stores, including the bakery, health and beauty, fresh food and produce sections.
Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming customers back to these newly upgraded stores in time for Christmas.
“Whether it’s creating more space, refreshing key shopping areas or introducing more energy-efficient technology, we’re continuing to invest in our stores to make them even better for the communities they serve.”

Broader investment plans
Aldi is also investing £370 million in new stores across the country this year, with a further £900 million investment planned for next year, including the opening of 40 new stores. It forms part of a longer-term ambition of having 1,500 UK stores; Aldi currently has around 1,000.
Last week, Aldi announced plans to invest a further £17.5 million in solar panels at 230 more UK stores between 2027 and 2031. The investment will help the supermarket generate more of its own renewable electricity, with each installation capable of providing up to 30% of a store’s annual energy requirements.
The plans build on Aldi’s existing £8.4 million programme to install solar panels at 100 additional stores during 2025 and 2026. The chain says it will bring its total investment in solar power to approximately £26 million by 2031. More than 500 Aldi stores are expected to have solar panels by the end of this year.
