Aldi Stores to Close Early in Trial to Save Money

Aldi has confirmed new details of an early-closure plan to save money, with some stores set to close an hour earlier than usual. The supermarket giant will trial earlier closing times in a move that affects shoppers hoping for extended evening hours.

Trial Details and Affected Stores

A full list of affected stores is not yet available, and Aldi has not issued specifics on which stores are impacted or when the change will come into force. However, some stores are already implementing the change, with more expected to follow. One shop worker in Heanor, Derbyshire, posted on Facebook: “Please be aware that as of Monday 13th July, Aldi Heanor will be closing at 9pm instead of 10pm Monday-Saturday with no change on a Sunday, this will be on a trial basis to begin with but will likely be the new permanent opening hours thereafter.” Another employee reported that their branch in the West Midlands would close an hour early at 9pm from July 16, according to The Sun.

Current Store Hours and Impact

A listing of all Aldi stores on their website shows that most of the company’s 1,084 stores shut at 10pm. Around 48 currently shut at 9pm, with the number set to increase next month. The trial is expected to last one to two months.

Best Times to Shop During Summer Holidays

The best time to shop at the supermarket has been updated, with Aldi representatives outlining optimal shopping times during the summer holidays. According to in-store data, the best times to shop are typically before 10am and after 8pm on weekdays, with Saturday evenings also offering a quieter window for weekend shoppers. Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi UK, said: "We know the school holidays can be a busy and expensive time for families, so we want to make shopping as simple and affordable as possible.
